A noble gas is a chemical element which possesses a special electronic structure. Noble gases are relatively inert to chemical reactivity (acting "noble" when combined with other elements), and also tend to glow when electrically charged (a property called electroluminescence). Neon is the most commonly used noble gas in electroluminescent applications, one of which is the gas-plasma display.
